Cranberry weekend!

So this weekend is the annual 'Bandon Cranberry Festival'.

We got up at the crack of dawn yesterday (OK ...so 7:30 am) to get ready and head to Old Town Bandon, a bit ahead of the crowds. We had a yummy breakfast at the 'Minute Cafe', Mele of course decided to wear his Charger football jersey (which I plan on framing one of these days, as he knows that I HATE it) and so we got allot of stares... hmm..

Either because of:

1- The Jersey, as everyone obviously supports the Oregon Ducks or Seattle Sea hawks

2- The fact that we are Latinos in a land of white people that is Bandon, Oregon.

Anyways.... we wound up walking BACK, to practically where we live, just so we can see the parade with Holly & Ralph. It lasted about 40 minutes, and well... was a bit better than the 4Th. of July one. There where Shriner's, a bunch of Corvettes (what's cranberry about that?), free ICE CREAM (yummy), tractors, the same old man and his dog where in it of course, Mele says that he's also my boyfriend cause we always see him (duh), the fire station, old cars (which where nice), the Cranberry Queen, and pretty much ANYBODY else who felt like being in it could.

So Holly suggested that next year Mele, the cats & I come out in it. I said that there will probably be a crowd of angry red-necks just waiting' for a couple o' 'Spics' like us with a burning cross or something,..LOL.. Ralphy suggested winning over the crowd by maybe, instead of throwing candies, how about some taquitos???

We shall see.....

I'll post more pictures of the parade in my Flickr page.

So... they had booths, where people where selling there home made soaps, and jewelry. I only saw 1 booth with sewn stuff. But the crowd where incredible! I think 1/2 of Oregon was here. Mele was like 'see.... you should be selling your stuff here also'. I don't know. I am paranoid about craft fairs. I don't think I could control my mouth if I heard someone say, 'I can make that' or "Why does it cost that much?"...

I would NEVER say that to a fellow Indie artist. It's your time, effort, and materials cost & worth!!! That's why we all price our items like we do. but allot of people are tactless that way, and expect a person who does this for a living to sell them at 'Wal Mart' prices.

So that is why, I am a big scardie cat when it comes to craft fairs. I got an invite from Bazzar Bizzare that is coming up in San Francisco. I know that there is a monthly one, Crafty Wonderland up in Portland. And there is another one, in Sisters, Or., but...hmm... no se.

Ok.... Mele is standing in the kitchen, supposedly he is going to make me pancakes, but I am not really in the mood for charcoal-ones......

You know I think you should really sell at craft fairs. Your items aren't really THAT expensive and if you post a sign saying that the items you've created were made from imported Japanese fabrics in a new and revolutionary style called "Zakka" that they might not be retarded about the pricing. I mean think about the pricing of handmade pottery at those craft fairs. Besides, some of your zippies are $5 and I think that's a perfectly affordable price for anyone who wanted to snatch one up. Just my two cents. :P
